Lemon Cream Waffles

Waffles always make me think of cozy Sundays and time spent with my family. Maybe that’s why the waffle iron tends to come out whenever I’m craving that kind of comfort.

I didn’t own one in Berlin until 2022, so it came home with me in a spontaneous purchase at the Media Markt in Neukölln. I was sick and sniffly at the time, but somehow I had enough energy to make it all the way to Karl-Marx-Straße.

Since then, the waffle iron – and especially my family’s favorite waffle recipe – has served me incredibly well.

These waffles aren’t just fluffy; they’re bright, fresh, and full of lemony flavor. That comes from the lemon zest, which, in my opinion, is an essential part of any really good waffle.

Enjoy the recipe!

Ingredients for about 10 heart-shaped waffles:

  • 125 g (room-temperature) butter or margarine
  • 75 g sugar (I usually mix half raw cane sugar, half white sugar)
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • Zest of one organic lemon
  • 4 eggs
  • 250 g flour
  • 250 g cream
  • 175 ml oat milk
  • A pinch of salt
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
